The Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh (HAWA) represents all of Vietnam’s wood processing and furniture manufacturers. HAWA has an extensive network of manufacturers in Vietnam’s furniture sector—they are also the organisers of the annual VIFA HOME (for domestic furniture market) in November and VIFA EXPO (for furniture export market) in March.
For nearly two decades, Panels & Furniture Group of wood magazines has been delivering timely, thought-provoking insights to its global readership. Six titles under the Group’s umbrella encompass Panels & Furniture Asia, Panels & Furniture China, Panels & Furniture MENA, Wood Flooring Asia, American Hardwood Southeast Asia and American Hardwood China. The Group is also the organiser of the Sylva Wood show in Shanghai.
Gain access to more than 1500 exporting companies in need of new technology to expand capacity. 60% of Vietnam’s 4,000 furniture and woodworking factories are located within a 40km radius around Long An, Binh Duong, Dong Nai provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam’s wood material imports amounted to US$2.1 billion in 2015. Total wood products exports rose 10.7% to US$6.9 billion compared to the year before. This upward trend is expected to continue this year with total export value rising 10.2% to hit US$7.6 billion. Vietnam is also expected to be the next focal point for panel production, with announced capacity of 700,000m3 of MDF in 2015.
The country’s phenomenal growth in the last decade has made it a serious contender to overtake China as the world’s manufacturing powerhouse. Foreign direct investment hit a record high in 2015 and is set to continue to climb in 2016. Some drivers of growth are: A stable, visionary government that encourages innovation and investment, an abundance of raw material, a young and skilled workforce, and easy access via land and sea to southern China.
